Lions and Tigers and Bears....Oh My!!

Alberta is a beautiful province. Jaya and I don't leave the house nearly enough, but I am hoping to change that more in the next few weeks. Starting with the Calgary Zoo!!! I was reading books about animals to her early this morning and decided the zoo would be a great place for her to visit for her two month birthday party! I bundled her up quite warm so she was all for it. We saw several baby animals throughout the zoo (here were a few). When we got to the snake exibit Jaya gave me the "Stink Eye" as you can tell. I told her I completely agreed!! Afterwards we took a few photos together! I am not sure where our next adventure will be to next weekend....but we will keep you posted!

She likes it..She like it not...She likes it...She likes it not

Below are a few items Jaya seems to like and also dislike. Just thought I should document them. It seemed like the "good" mother thing to do...

Laying on the couch (attended of course)
Being on her belly
Getting pats on the back
The radio cranked up on high

talking one foot from her face
sleeping with both hands somewhere on her face
attempting to put her entire fist in her mouth

The Snow Suit that's Two Sizes To Big!!!

Every kid has to be dressed up ridiculously by their mother at some point. Jaya is surviving it early in her life. Here we are at the Black Diamond Hockey rink watching Travis play hockey!

Dr. Noel Grisdale

Travis and I took Jaya to the doctor in Black Diamond today. He assured us that she was healthy and with treatment her Thrush would clear up quickly. She weighs just about 10 pounds now.
She will be eight weeks old this Friday! Everyday she changes a little more. She brings so much happiness into our lives. She is most content when she is wrapped up in a warm fuzzy blanket being held by either one of us. Sometimes I don't even think the word love is enough to describe what I feel for her....

Oral Thrush....Boo

Of course this week wouldn't be complete unless Jaya developed something. This morning Travis found white spots on the inside of her mouth. Supposedly this Oral Thrush is common in newborns, however every mom I talk to says her kid has never had it! I have been reading up on it and it doesn't usually cause pain. However it is painful for some and they become extremely fussy and refuse to eat. Which one do you think Jaya developed? You guessed it!!!! The painful one... Once again she is miserable. She cried for a good portion of the night. I guess Thrush is a type of yeast infection. It's ten at night and Travis just left for the pharmacy in hopes of finding a cure. It's been a hard day. This mom gig is hard. :-(

A Nickname for Jaya

We all have been given a nickname for one reason or another. Jaya's derived from a song my mom used to sing to me when I was little. Here it is....

"Peanut sittin on a railroad track
Heart went all a flutter
Round the corner came a train
toot toot
Peanut Butter!"

I probably sing it to her at least 3x a day. So there ya have it. I have called her Peanut since the day she was born. I am ok if most boys she meets when she is older have some type of terrible peanut allergy!

Travis calls her his little princess. It can't be helped... She has him whipped!

Morning Person???

I have always considered myself a morning person. Until now... Because I now have a seven week old that thinks two in the morning is play time. She grunts, talks, wants to eat, kicks, laughs, smiles, anything but sleep. I tell her to go back to bed but she rarely listens. This morning I offered her ten dollars and then twenty to go back to sleep but she just smiled. It's now seven thirty in the morning. My hair looks like a bad 80's rock band, I have already had my coffee, and my daughter is now fast asleep. You may look at these pictures and think...awe but she is so darn cute. These little people should come with a WARNING LABEL saying "WARNING, SLEEP SUCKER." I think I may be bitter...I just don't think I am a morning person anymore after all!!!

Travis and I

We are very busy with Jaya but we still enjoy "Date Night," sushi standing up, and truck rides together!

More Pictures From Alberta

The white dress Jaya is wearing is the dress I wore when I was dedicated. My great grandmother made it and it now fits my daughter. Jaya wore it to Thanksgiving dinner at Great Granny's House this past Sunday. Yes...that is not a typo...Thanksgiving in October! It's pretty great that we will be celebrating Thanksgiving TWICE this year!!! Who wouldn't want that?
Everything thing is going well here. I have made more friends, just joined a coed indoor soccer team (with a Nazi coach :-), like my church, love our weekends with Travis, still can't knit well, scrub poop stains out of onzies, am a self-confessed Skype aholic, take hundreds of pictures of Jaya doing absolutely nothing, am part of an elite stroller club (ok...so I may be the only member), still trying to lose the last 12 pregnancy pounds, and I find myself enjoying children's books more than Jaya does!!! Jaya is now 6 and half weeks old and she brings us so much JOY! She is smiling more and more every day, she loves to hear her dad sing, she holds her head up, she never makes a peep when her diaper is being changed, and she was at her first hockey game last Friday. We love getting updates from all of you back home in the US, so if you read this blog please send me an email when you get a free minute. We love hearing from all of you too!

The Face of Happiness

If you would like to know what Jaya thinks about life up in Canada. Just ask her!

Love this song...

I played this for Jaya and she fell asleep.. So I pretty much love this song!

Over the Rainbow - Jason Castro

What a weekend!!!

Friday, Travis and I left Jaya with a babysittter for the first time. A girl from church that runs the nursery watched her for us. Travis took me to a Flames Professional Hockey game in Calgary. I had an absolute blast!!!! He is patiently teaching me the in's and out's of hockey. I try and corolate it with soccer but it's still a slow process. We ate all the types of food that would give you a heart attack!!! The game was incredible... It went into overtime and the Flames ended up winning 4-3. It was great spending time together. He is not only a great dad but also a great boyfriend!

Saturday took a turn for the worse. I would like to officially dispell a myth. I was told that breastfed babies never got a cold. Well...Jaya came down with her first cold on Saturday morning. It was aweful. I was sucking boogers out with a bulb and sticking saline drops down her nose. We had the humidifier going and baby vics fumigating the condo. She was miserable and I was worried the whole day. I just held her and watched her sleep. By Sunday morning the cold was mostly gone. She was still worn out but she was breathing better. I pray we don't go through that ever again. You really never know what worrying is until you become a parent.
