Me and My Girls

Photobucket

The End of July 2010 (thank God)

Nothing like ending this month off with a bang! Got a speeding ticket today. Going 70km in a 50km. Had I not been fined $124.00 I would have probably bought this sign. But instead I am going to go to my brainless job with a catering company tonight so that I will have money to pay the ticket. This month has been an emotional roller coaster. Can't wait for tomorrow....

In Our Home...
We do second chances.
We do grace.
We do mistakes.
We do real.
We do I'm sorrys.
We do funny.
We do loud really well.
We do hugs.
We do family.
We do love.

This lady has some cool signs...

The Tale of Two Pregnancy Tests....

When I was pregnant with Jaya I would get extreme hot flashes the first month. I had them most of this July, so I told Travis I knew I was pregnant. He agreed... So while I was in Revelstoke, BC I bought a pregnancy test. I took it one day prior to my missed period. The test came up negative and I told Travis we weren't pregnant and I am just going crazy. He agreed... The night after I returned home I knew something was stirring in my body... Travis encouraged me to get a second pregnancy test because he still thought I was pregnant. So I did, and low and behold...it was positive! And that's the tale of the Two Pregnancy Tests...

When Our Four Became Five

We have huge news! We are expecting a new addition to our family next March 2011! Before your jaw drops off of your mouth please read the following answers...

1. Was this baby planned?

Prior to getting married Travis and I both agreed that we wanted more than 2.5 kids and a dog. We BOTH want a large family (4 to 5ish). We love raising our babies, however we also want our children to be close in age. We are truly in the diaper stage of our lives :-). I am thirty-two and really would rather not be having babies in my late thirties/forties... After Elynn turned seven months old we decided we would not do anything to prevent getting pregnant. That was a mutual decision in which we figured it would probably take a while to get pregnant. This was not the case. We are thrilled. (It's always fun trying :-)

2. Have you converted to Catholicism or Mormanism? (This question came from Ian Ross)

No...No...and again No... We are a Bible baised family, and from our study of scripture this is what the Bible has to say about children. Genesis 9:7 and Psalm 127:4-5 There is no doubt in our minds that children are truly a blessing from the LORD.

3. But will you be able to give enough attention to each child?

Travis and I both agree that we will raise our own children and will not be leaving them with someone else. This is a personal decision and in no way are pushing this belief system on others. Therefore, we feel that we will be able to give each child plenty of stimulation, education, and attention. Areas they will have to bend would most likely be materialisticly. Which, in our opinion, never really hurt anyone...

4. Do you know how this sort of thing happens?

Um...Yes we do :-) We are prepared for all of the jokes. Bring em! We find them funny too! We are not careless. We have had a plan and were just leaving the timing to God.

5. Will you find out if it's a girl or boy?

We just pray they are healthy! Most likely we will not find out....

6. How will you pay for their weddings with them so close together?

We do not have a good answer for this one, but I can tell you Travis is already thinking about it! He is thinking more on the lines of a dowery/cattle negotiation...

7. Are you going to leave enough children for other people to have kids.

Well we can't speak for others, but we can always hope they have big families too!

8. Isn't it to early to start telling people?

We talked about this...The truth is there is a chance I still may miscarry/still birth. Both would be terrible, but we can't change that from happening. We just have to trust that God is in control and pray baby and I will be healthy.
Either way we will still blog through the joy or grief. This whole blog is about livin life...remember?

9. But you and Travis haven't been able to spend enough alone time together or have any fun. Have you?

Then you need to come over to our house every night around six or every Sunday! We have family play time and then once the children are in bed Travis and I enjoy our time together. Despite having two children, we still have made time for a date night about every two weeks. We both love date night! As far as holidays, we do plan on going on a trip and leaving the children with Oma and Grandpa Joe. (They have been warned :-)Trust me....we have fun here at the Hickey house. Our door is always open and friends and family are always welcome!

I find it funny that when you get pregnant with your first people are thrilled. Even your second people rejoice with you, but after that people start to question you having more children. They have a harder time rejoicing with you. We have friends with four kids that get comments like, "You guys are done right?" or "Wow that's a lot of kids" Every child is unique and every child is a gift. We will rejoice (and hope others do to) no matter what the birth order. Besides can you imagine how much fun our house will be when the kids are teenagers? I'm pretty sure we will have half the school over to hang out! :-)

And so with a joyful heart I want to welcome this little person into our family. We haven't met you but we already love you....

It's So Great To Be Back!

Towards the end of our trip Jaya would call out "DAD!, DAD! DADDY!" The last day we were in Kelowna I told her we were going home to see Dad. She said, "OK!" and went and grabbed her blanket and headed for the door. She missed him... We all missed him. From these pics it is quite clear why....

These moments are priceless. I love being a part of this family!

Wednesdays with Family and Friends

Every Wednesday(ok most Wednesdays), I pack up the girls and head to Turner Valley to Granny Shelia's house. Our long time family friend Trudy usually stops by to join banter too! The girls love our visit. Once in a great while I will remember to bring my camera and get a few shots like this...

Swim Park Take Two

Children will always remind you that you can never get too much of a good thing. And so, we went for a second round to the Kelowna spray park.

Just Chillaxin

Elynn is working on her "sitting up skills." While Jaya has been working on her "climbing skills." Granny was able to witness it all! Never a dull moment with these two...Never a dull moment.

Swim Park! Swim Park! Swim Park!

"Swim Park Momma! Swim Park!" If I had a penny for every time I heard those words this summer I would hire a cleaning lady! And so, our adventures continued with Granny, Uncle Shane, Aunt Amy, Maizey, Jaya and Elynn. (Dad missed out due to trying to sell our house, car, condo in one week, while working back in Alberta. But we are truly grateful for the sacrifices he makes so we can go on GREAT adventures.)

Beach Time with Granny Peggy

The very first day we were in Kelowna Granny Peggy took us all to the beach. What a treat! Living in land locked Alberta the beach is a great way to start off any visit. Jaya is a my hero, she went directly in the water with her clothes on, because right now I can't even seem to remember to bring a diaper bag let alone a swimsuit. Way to go Jaya, a little sand in your shorts won't hurt ya! I have heard some people call it "complete chaos," but I would like to think of it as free therapy so my kids don't end up "fussy," "whiny," "brats," because everything isn't just "perfect." Perfection is ridiculous. Perfection is un-achievable. Life isn't perfect. People aren't perfect and most of all we have to learn to be grateful for the small things. Like I had said earlier...we are just livin life here trying not to sweat the small stuff. My children may never have a perfectly packed diaper bag but they will have wonderful life experiences none the less. After all, Jaya still seemed to have a blast in the water and Elynn just screamed when I stuck her toes in....I'm with you Elynn...It was cooooooooooooooold! Thank you Granny Peggy for the wonderful time at the beach...

The Classic Cousin Bathtub Shot

Well you have to admit, we all have one of these hidden away somewhere. The classic "Cousin Bathtub Shot!" Unfortunately for Jaya and Elynn theirs is on the world wide web!
